The Sportsman's Club holds it's meetings,the first Wednesday of each month, at 7:30 PM, located at The Lizard Lounge, 5506 E. Wonder Lake Rd, Wonder Lake IL, 60097.

Upcoming Events

• Ice Fishing Derby Sunday, January 31st, 2010 6 AM - 2 PM

(Note annual events scheduled for spring/summer of 2010 have not been updated with 2010 dates and times)

• Judging Ice

“Thick and blue, tried and true. Thin and crispy, way too risky”

Look for bluish ice that is at least 4 to 6 inches thick. Even if the weather has been below freezing for several days, don’t guess about ice thickness. Check the ice in several places. Use an auger, spud or axe to make a test hole, beginning at shore and continuing as you go out. If ice at the shoreline is cracked or squishy, stay off. Don’t go on the ice during thaws. Watch out for thin, clear, or honeycomb shaped ice. Dark snow and dark ice are other signs of weak spots.

• Annual Events

• Ice Fishing Derby Annual event usually scheduled in late January, with a back-up date in February. This event is located at Wonder Woods Beach #4, and is a highlight of the winter season. LINK

 

• Spring Bass Tournament Annual event scheduled in May. LINK

 

• Kids Fishing Derby Annual event usually scheduled in June, this event is located at Center Beach, free for all kids, many prizes are awarded. LINK

 

• Carp Bowfishers Shoot Annual event usually scheduled in June, this event is held at Shore Hills Beach (2/3 mile South of Center Beach on E. LSD). LINK

 

• Catfish Derby Annual event usually scheduled overnight in August, this event is held at Shore Hills Beach (2/3 mile South of Center Beach on E. LSD). LINK

 

• Fall Bass Derby Annual event usually scheduled in September, and is held at Center Beach. LINK
